Crops at peak demand: Amino acids and potassium to face the onset of the hot season

Crops at peak demand: Amino acids and potassium to face the onset of the hot season

With the arrival of the heat, many crops enter a particularly delicate phase. Rising temperatures, higher solar radiation and increased water demand often coincide with key stages for fruit formation, setting, filling, or ripening.

In this context, the crop needs to maintain its physiological activity under increasingly demanding conditions. It is not just about withstanding the heat, but about continuing to function efficiently as environmental pressure increases. The plant must keep on regulating its transpiration, maintaining photosynthesis, mobilizing nutrients, and directing photoassimilates to the fruit.

This is particularly important for certain woody crops which, at this time of year, are in stages that are critical to the final quality of the crop. Stone fruit trees, fruit orchards, almond trees, pistachio trees, olive trees, or grapevines may go through stages of fruit growth, pit hardening, filling, reserve accumulation, ripening, or harvest preparation.

In some fruit trees, such as almond or pistachios trees, the heat coincides with phases of fruit setting, sugar accumulation, and final ripening. In grapevines, the plant progresses toward stages where water and nutritional balance determine berry development, sugar accumulation, and final quality. In olive groves, the onset of the heat can occur simultaneously with the initial stages of fruit growth, where maintaining good physiological activity is key.

When the temperature rises significantly, the plant increases transpiration to regulate its temperature. If the evaporative demand is very high or the root system fails to compensate for water loss, a water imbalance occurs. In response, the plant may close its stomata, reduce photosynthesis, and limit nutrient uptake and mobility.

These defensive responses help reduce water loss, but they also decrease CO? uptake and metabolic activity. During the setting, filling or ripening stages, this reduction in activity can directly affect fruit size, sugar accumulation, color, firmness, yield, and final quality.

Therefore, for crops undergoing peak productive demand, it is essential to adapt their nutrition to hot conditions. At this stage, two tools take on special importance: amino acids and potassium.

Amino acids to help the crop combat heat stress

Amino acids help the crop maintain its physiological balance in the face of heat stress. By providing rapidly assimilated organic molecules, the plant can use them directly in essential metabolic processes, reducing the energy expenditure associated with their internal synthesis.

This is particularly beneficial during periods of high temperatures, intense radiation, or moderate water stress, when crops need to remain active without excessively increasing its physiological strain.

In this context, Herovital Suprem and Herovital Serie Oro stand out as physiological support solutions based on high-quality amino acids, particularly recommended for crops exposed to high temperatures or phases of high metabolic demand.

Potassium during the fruit setting, filling, and ripening stages

Alongside amino acids, potassium is one of the most important nutrients during the hot season, especially for crops in the setting, filling, or ripening stages.

Its role in osmotic regulation, stomatal control, enzyme activation, and sugar transport makes it a key element in maintaining the water and productive efficiency of the plant.

Within the Denso range, Herogra Especiales offers potassium-based solutions tailored to these periods of high demand. Herofol Denso Rojo and Herofol Denso Amino K help boost the potassium nutrition of the crops during stages where yield and quality depend on the proper mobilization of sugars and nutrients.

Additionally, Herofol Denso Amino K combines the supply of potassium with amino acids, providing a complementary effect that is especially useful during periods of heat. Potassium contributes to water regulation, sugar transport, and ripening, while amino acids help maintain physiological activity and improve the crop response to heat stress.

This combination is particularly beneficial for crops that must continue producing under high-temperature conditions. While amino acids help the plant better withstand stress and sustain its metabolism, potassium promotes processes directly related to fruit setting, filling, ripening, and final quality.

Nutrition adapted to the onset of the hot season

Therefore, the onset of the hot season must be approached from a crop management perspective. Not all crops are at the same stage, but many are going through phases that are critical to their profitability.

Preparing for high temperatures is not just about adjusting irrigation or monitoring the weather forecast. It also involves boosting nutrition based on the crop phenological stage, providing tools that help maintain physiological balance and sustain crop quality.

In this scenario, Herovital Suprem, Herovital Serie Oro, Herofol Denso Rojo and Herofol Denso Amino K allow us to support crops during one of the most demanding stages of the year, combining the physiological support of amino acids with the strategic role of potassium in fruit setting, filling, ripening and quality.
